If the sun is shining it doesn’t really matter what the temperature is to fans of area flea markets.
One of the biggest in northern Ohio as well as long-established is Jamie’s Flea Market in South Amherst. Open every Wednesday and Saturday twelve months a year. When the sun starts to shine the vendor stands fill the driveways and lanes behind the building and attract thousands of people, everyone searching for bargains.
Jamie’s started out many years ago as an auction house and the flea market just naturally followed, finally growing so large that it literally took over the business.
Some of the vendors arrive before dawn hoping to get a good spot under the shady trees to the rear of the markethouse. By dawn the first customers start trickling in and by 8 AM the aisles are filled with customers and “lookers”. At the peak of the summer there will be six hundred vendors inside and out at the flea market and an estimated quarter-million people will have made the trek to South Amherst.
