Neil on the road…Partying in Painesville

This week our book promotion tour took us to the Painesville Party in the Park, a community celebration that has been going on in Lake County for 30 years.

I remember covering the first party for Fox 8 TV back in 1980.  It has grown into a three day affair now with lots of free music, all kinds of food booths, and many family activities.

Bonnie and I were part of a group of authors that signed books in a booth operated by folks from the Barnes and Noble Bookstore at the Mentor Mall.  We got to meet some of my fellow writers that are published by Gray & Co.,, Publishers, like John Barbo who was signing the second edition of his well-written and informative fishing guide for northern Ohio.

Across the midway from our booth was Pap’s Kettle Corn concession and it was probably one of the hottest jobs at the party.  With the temperature hovering in the 90′s the young lady every hour had to don a heavy coat, gloves and a full face mask as she used a boat oar to stir the hot popcorn in the huge copper kettle as it popped.

My vote for the second hottest job at the party was this young lady who was wearing a mock fur yellow duck or chicken costume.

Our appreciation goes out this week to Tim Lones of the Cleveland Classic Media blog for his review of my new book, “Tales from the Road”.  You can read Tim’s review at http://www.clevelandclassicmedia.blogspot.com

Many, many thanks to my former colleague, Robin Swoboda and her wonderful staff, producer Tomi Toyama-Ambrose and videographer Herb Thomas, who used to travel with me on One Tank Trips, for the wonderful spot they gave my new book on “The Robin Swoboda Show” on Wednesday, July 14th.  As I mentioned earlier they accompanied me back to my home-town of Henrietta to show and talk about some of the locations that I write about in the new book.

This coming Saturday we make our way to North Canton and a book signing at the Border’s store in the strip in North Canton.  I hope that any of you in the area will stop in and say hello.
